Part 6
During the Communist period, the true academics who managed to survive by "shunning" the exaction of the regime (because such a thing was nonetheless possible) adhered to the strict scientific and theoretic values to protect themselves from the penetrating infestation of the official ideology. The socio-humanistic sciences were the most exposed, as they were called upon to serve and sustain the regime. Perhaps this is the reason why the orientation toward civic and political values of the social fields was approached less often by honest academics, who found their refuge in the ivory tower of some abstract values less controlled by the super-ordinated indications.
Other subjects followed their natural course and, despite deficient material base and lack of specialized information, maintained their high standards due to the dedication and talent of the people engaged to serve them.
In recent years, with the ideological barriers down, the University of Iasi has been going through a process of recovery in an attempt to connect itself to the modern experiments of the world, by reworking its structures and by promoting new, attractive and efficient courses and curricula designed to adequately respond to present day requirements and to the perspective.
